BBC Restoration Village

Happisburgh might not have come out too well when featured in the first episode of the new series of BBC's Restoration Village , but they will hopefully be more constructive about another Norfolk project.

My sisters and I used to go to school at Pennoyer's School in Pulham St Mary near Diss - from the front it looks like a typical village primary school, but it's built upon a medieval guild chapel which was later endowed for use as a 'free school' by William Pennoyer in 1670. Until its closure in 1988, the school provided continuous elemantray education for the children of the village.

The building has since sat unused, but in January 2006 a small team was set up to investigate the feasibility of converting the old school building into a Village Centre. Plans were well underway before the project was accepted as one of the 20 competing for the BBC Restoration Fund prize.

Pennoyer's School will be competing in the Midlands and East Anglia heat on August 11th - please consider voting for the project.

To vote for Pennoyer's, call the Restoration Village telephone voting number: 09013 600500 The voting number will open at midnight on Thursday 10 August and close on Wednesday 16 August - don't miss your chance to give us your vital support!

Calls from a BT landline will cost £1, but the cost of calls from other networks and mobiles may vary. 77p from each call will go to the BBC's charity The Restoration Fund (charity number 1098895), to help restore the winning building, providing it fulfils the conditions set out by the Trustees of The Restoration Fund.
